Frequently Asked Questions

Here's what people usually ask before they begin. Search below or browse by topic. Can't find your answer? Just call us, we're happy to help.

General

We help families sort out old paper share certificates. That can mean moving them to demat, replacing lost ones, transferring shares after a death in the family, or getting back shares and dividends sent to the government's IEPF. One case manager looks after all the paperwork for you.

Yes, and this is very common. Send us photos of whatever certificates or old papers you have. We'll find out the company, its registrar and where the shares stand today, before you decide anything.

It depends on the service-dematerialisation typically takes 3-5 weeks, transmission and IEPF recovery can take 6-10 weeks depending on documentation and RTA response times. Your case manager gives you a realistic estimate after reviewing your certificates.

No. Most of our clients, including NRIs, do everything from home. Where needed, documents are couriered or notarised near you, and your case manager keeps in touch by call, WhatsApp and email.

Demat

SEBI has phased out most transactions involving physical share certificates-you generally cannot sell, transfer, or pledge them until they are dematerialised. Converting to demat also protects them from loss, theft, or damage.

You'll need one by the time we file your dematerialisation request. If you don't already have a demat account, we can guide you through opening one with a broker of your choice, or refer you to a partner.

Typically your original share certificates, a filled Dematerialisation Request Form (DRF), PAN card, and a cancelled cheque or bank proof linked to your demat account. Your case manager confirms the exact list once we know the company and holding pattern.

The physical certificate is surrendered to the RTA/depository participant during the process and is cancelled once your electronic holding is credited-this is standard procedure and cannot be avoided.

Transmission

Transmission is the legal transfer of share ownership to legal heirs or a nominee after the original shareholder's death. It is different from a regular "transfer," which applies when shares are bought or sold.

Generally a death certificate, the original share certificates, PAN and identity proof of the claimant(s), and-depending on whether a nomination or will exists-a notarised affidavit, indemnity bond, succession certificate, or legal heir certificate.

Yes, it's still possible without a nominee. It just needs a few extra documents, such as a succession certificate, legal heir certificate, or probate/letters of administration depending on the value involved and applicable state rules.

Yes. Shares can be transmitted jointly to all legal heirs, or to one heir with the consent of the others, depending on how your family chooses to proceed. We help draft the required consent/indemnity documents either way.

IEPF

The Investor Education and Protection Fund (IEPF) is a government fund. Companies are legally required to transfer shares and dividends to it if dividends remain unclaimed for 7 consecutive years-this happens silently, often without the shareholder's family ever being informed.

We search the company's unclaimed dividend/shares register and the IEPF authority's database using your folio number or certificate details, and confirm within a few working days whether a transfer has occurred.

An IEPF claim typically takes 6-10 weeks from filing to credit, depending on how quickly the company's Nodal Officer verifies the claim and the IEPF Authority processes it. We track every stage and follow up on your behalf.

Yes-a successful IEPF claim recovers both the shares transferred and any unclaimed dividend amounts associated with them, credited to your demat and bank accounts respectively.

Pricing

No. Your first consultation and case check are completely free. For recovery cases like IEPF, our fee depends on results, so you don't pay before you see a result.

For recovery cases (IEPF, unclaimed shares), we charge a percentage of the value recovered, agreed upfront in writing. For process-only services like dematerialisation or transposition, we charge a transparent flat fee. See our Pricing page for indicative numbers.

Any third-party or statutory costs (courier, notarisation, stamp duty, RTA charges) are disclosed to you upfront before you incur them-never added as a surprise at the end.

Security

Yes. All documents are handled under strict confidentiality, stored on access-controlled systems, and used solely for processing your case with the RTA, depository, or IEPF Authority. We never share your data with unrelated third parties.

Originals are logged on receipt, tracked against your case reference, and either couriered directly to the RTA/depository under a trackable, insured consignment, or held securely until the relevant filing stage.

No. Recovered shares are credited directly to your own demat account and dividends to your own registered bank account-we never take custody of your funds or holdings at any stage.
